What the grade describes

Cashew kernels are traded in several sizes and forms. Whole kernels are often selected for snacks and products where appearance matters. Splits and pieces are useful in bakery, confectionery and other recipes where the kernel will be mixed, chopped or processed. A grade description makes these differences clearer, but size is only one part of the product specification.

White whole grades

The W designation is commonly used for white whole kernels. Under the standard cashew kernel grade chart, W180 has 170–180 kernels per pound (454 g), W210 has 200–210, W240 has 220–240, W320 has 300–320 and W450 has 400–450. Larger kernels produce a lower count for the same weight. Count bands can differ between grading conventions, so the named standard matters when comparing offers.

Splits, butts and pieces

S describes kernels split lengthwise, while B refers to butts broken across the kernel. LWP and SWP describe large and small white pieces. Baby bits are a smaller fragment category used in ingredient production. Scorched whole grades describe a different colour class and should not be confused with white whole grades. These descriptions identify the material form rather than a particular roasting or seasoning recipe.

How bulk cashews are packed

Commercial formats include 10 kg vacuum bags inside cartons and 22.68 kg bulk packs. Another format uses two 11.34 kg tins in a carton, giving 22.68 kg net. The inner pack protects the food, while the outer carton supports handling and stacking. These are trade formats: the quotation identifies the actual pack selected for an order.

Freshness and product condition

Cashew kernels contain natural oils. Protection against moisture, heat and unsuitable exposure to air helps preserve flavour. Intact inner packs and sound outer cartons also reduce damage during distribution. Moisture, colour, broken content and other quality characteristics sit alongside the count grade; a W320 label alone does not describe every one of them.

Putting the details together

A useful comparison covers kernel form, grade, processing condition, net pack weight and the required food analysis. Unroasted kernels and roasted salted snacks are different products, even if both use whole cashews. Bleffice Enterprise Ltd welcomes wholesale enquiries for cashew products; the written quotation confirms product availability, specifications and packaging for the proposed order.
