Kernels, in-shell nuts and whole spice
Cashews are traded as raw in-shell nuts or as graded kernels. Pistachios and walnuts are available in-shell or shelled, and green cardamom as whole pods graded by size and litre weight.
How grades are stated
Cashew kernels use the W-count system (W180 to W450) and piece grades. Pistachios use count per ounce, walnuts use kernel colour and halves or pieces, and cardamom uses the Alleppey Green size grades. Each quotation states the grade, crop and packing of the lot offered.
