A4 describes the sheet size
A4 measures 210 × 297 mm. It is a familiar format for office documents, copying and everyday printing. The size does not determine paper weight, finish or printer compatibility. Two A4 products can have identical dimensions while feeling different and performing differently in a printer or copier.
What GSM means
GSM is grams per square metre, a measure of mass per unit area. Common commercial copy-paper weights include 70, 75 and 80 GSM. These figures describe grammage, not thickness alone. Paper thickness and surface characteristics depend on the actual product, so GSM should be considered alongside the rest of the specification.
Brightness, whiteness and opacity
Brightness and whiteness are different optical measurements and should be compared using their stated methods. Opacity concerns how much shows through a sheet and can matter for double-sided printing. Cut quality, flatness and finish also influence handling. A claim of high brightness without its measurement basis gives less information than a complete paper specification.
Counting reams and cartons
A common copy-paper format has 500 sheets in a wrapped ream and five reams in an outer carton. That combination gives 2,500 sheets per carton. Other pack arrangements exist, so the actual counts belong in the quotation. Keeping the quantity basis clear avoids confusion between the number of sheets, reams and cartons ordered. An order of 100 cartons in that configuration contains 500 reams, or 250,000 sheets, with any other packing arrangement counted separately.
Packing for distribution
Ream wrapping protects the sheet stack, while outer cartons provide support through storage and transport. Palletised cartons can be secured for wholesale handling, with the carton count recorded separately. Dry storage, protection from crushing and intact wrapping help maintain flatness and limit moisture exposure before the paper reaches a printer.
Choosing an office-paper product
A useful wholesale description combines A4 size, the selected GSM, printer or copier suitability and the pack counts. Brand and certification requirements relate to the actual product rather than a generic paper description. For an enquiry, the main quantity can be stated in reams, cartons or pallets, with the intended destination and any required product details.
